Climate change is real, and if you don't believe its adverse effects, you should see news of how some parts of the world are facing floods while others are experiencing droughts.
Climate change not only affects air quality but also affects other things like health, housing, work, food, and safety. Isn't it worrisome? It surely is.
Ravi, a 17-year-old teenager inspired by Maya's amazing blog on climate change and air pollution, decided to dig into climate change and how it affects everything. He also wanted to spread awareness but in a unique way.
So, he decided to open up a Youtube channel and create a playlist on climate change that would include exciting videos on Climate Change and its effects.
Talking about Ravi's childhood, he spent 20 years in New Delhi, a city that always tops poor AQI charts. He closely experienced poor air quality, extreme temperatures, and heavy rainfalls.
His grandma died due to a severe lung infection at age 85, and he knew that her lungs had black deposits due to life-long exposure to air pollution.
Ravi knew that topics like Climate Change need human attention, for which initiatives like Maya's blog and his youtube videos can bring change.
Ravi began his journey by traveling to different communities, engaging with people from various walks of life. He started his research, gathered his tools, and finally started making videos.
In the first video, he discussed how climate change affects human health. Due to extreme temperatures and heat waves, people face heatstroke and respiratory illnesses. He mentioned that communities are vulnerable, including older people and children, are particularly at risk.
Some other effects of climate change, like caused by floods, droughts, and forest fires, affect communities on a large scale. At last, he stressed the importance of taking action to mitigate climate change to safeguard people's well-being because health is real wealth.
Ravi uploaded the video, and surprisingly, the video crossed 1 lakh views overnight. It motivated him to create more videos as he had planned.
Moving on, Ravi highlighted the connection between climate change and the ability to grow food in his second video. He stated data and spoke about how droughts, floods, and unpredictable weather patterns could devastate agricultural lands, causing crop failures and food shortages. He wanted this video to reach the farmers so that they understand the urgent need to adopt sustainable farming practices to ensure food security for future generations.
Ravi published this video, hoping to perform just like the first one. Until this time, the first video had already crossed 5 lakh views.
He started working on the third sub-topic: the issue of housing and safety. In the video, Ravi described the potential consequences of rising sea levels and intense storms, which could lead to widespread flooding and displacement of coastal communities. We all read the news about how floods affected significant parts of Himachal this year in July.
He put those flood videos and images in his video to create impact. He wanted all the people to realize that climate change was not just an environmental concern but also a threat to their homes and the safety of their loved ones.
At last, Ravi wanted to talk about the impact of climate change on employment and the economy. He created a video explaining how shifts in weather patterns could disrupt industries such as farming, fishing, and tourism, leading to job losses and economic instability. However, he also emphasized the opportunities presented by transitioning to renewable energy sources and creating green jobs that could both mitigate climate change and provide economic benefits.
Within a matter of time, his message resonated with people far and wide. His passionate storytelling and genuine concern for the well-being of people and the planet touched hearts and ignited a spark within individuals to take action.
Over time, Ravi's efforts began to bear fruit. People began to realize that their actions, no matter how small, could contribute to the collective fight against climate change.
Like him, let's understand that we can shape a world where the consequences of climate change are minimized, and the well-being of both people and the planet are prioritized.
