10 Measures to Reduce Air Pollution Exposure

In a science class, the teacher talks about air pollution and says that children are more susceptible to the effects of air pollution, as they often spend more time in activity and play, and they breathe more air per kilogram of body weight than adults.

She adds, “You are more sensitive to the effects of air pollution because your airways are still developing. In addition, you are more likely to develop asthma, which increases your risk.”

“Ma’am, how can we stay safe from air pollution exposure?” a student asked.

“Students, here are some ways you can stay safe:

  1. By staying indoors when AQI is high.
  2. By keeping your activity level low to reduce particulate pollution breathed into the lungs.
  3. By buying an air filter/air cleaner for your home.
  4. By keeping the window closed when air quality is bad and open when it is good for ventilation.
  5. By keeping your house clean. Try wet mopping, as it helps reduce dust.
  6. Pay attention to your AC and make sure it doesn’t draw outside air, and if it does, it is filtered.
  7. Avoid burning anything in or around the house.
  8. Wear a mask before going out.
  9. Install air-purifying plants in the house as they absorb co2 and release o2.
  10. Some trees like Peepal, Neem, Arjuna, Ashoka, Bael, Sweet Meem, Kadhi Patta, etc., improve air quality.

Stay alert, stay safe.” the teacher replied.
