The “cool kids” of Delhi are saving a hot planet! Meet the young climate justice warriors who have opened up the capital’s first ‘Climate Justice Library’ to spread climate literacy.
Members of the citizen action group Youth For Climate India had been distributing books to community members and local public via reading circles. But they decided to set up a community library to make climate justice related literature more accessible. The team now hopes to improve access to such resources and people’s understanding of the climate crisis, especially the heavy pollution rates in Delhi.
The library, located in South Extension, has 200 books on pollution, environmental conservation, ecology, and energy, donated by leading nonprofits working in the domain. You can borrow books by becoming a member for as low as Rs 500 per year.
“For me this library is a hope of a collective, just future — where everyone has access to good education and knowledge, especially climate education,” Srijani Datta, YFCI’s member, says.
The young activists, who have been participating in a global climate strike for over three years, hope to make climate justice a priority for people and politics.
This unique library is open for all on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 5pm. It is located at R-21, South Extension 2, New Delhi 110049.
#WingifyEarth encourages such citizen participation in the fight against climate change.
