Do you know that air pollution can take up to 10 years from the life of a Delhi resident? The pollution capital continues to become a dangerous place to breathe every day but unique inventions are now helping cut down pollution right at the source.
Founded in 2016, a unique Delhi-based ‘cleantech’ company offers distinctive solutions to reduce toxic emissions from diesel generators.
IIT-incubated Chakr Innovation’s special device can cut pollution right at the source.
The ‘Chakr Shield’ can collect 90% of particulate matter emissions from diesel generators while making sure the engine does not undergo any severe impact. This device can reduce particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), hydrocarbon emissions, and carbon monoxide by an easy retrofitting method.
Over the last two years, Chakr has installed its devices in 120 areas in the country across six states, where it turns diesel exhaust into printing ink and paints.
Also installed at the Select Citywalk mall in Delhi, the Chakr Shield can cut down emissions by 378kg of black soot emissions in the area. This is equal to 174 carbon monoxide emissions.
Their innovation can prove to be helpful in pollution-choked Delhi where 50% of pollution emanates from automobiles and generators, according to a 2021 study. Notably, diesel generators contribute to 16 per cent of PM2.5 in Delhi.
The Chakr Foundation essentially provides solutions that make energy production environment-friendly and more sustainable.
