Six little climate warriors in Delhi are leading the battle against air pollution

Schoolgirls from South Delhi have filed a plea in the High Court demanding the right to a “clean and healthy environment”. The girls say that as soon as they step out of their house, they are covered with dust and cannot stop coughing or sneezing. They have complained about the roads in the localities being dilapidated.

They have asked the court to fulfil their right to clean air. They have also been leading the way by using carpools to reach school and not contributing to vehicular pollution in the city.

Reports show that children in Delhi are most affected by air pollution. A 2021 study by TERI revealed that of the 423 children surveyed, 75 per cent reported breathlessness, 24 per cent complained of itchy eyes, and over 20 per cent complained of coughing and sneezing.

This proactive step by the young girls led to the court ordering the local administration to take action immediately.

#WingifyEarth celebrates such positive interventions.
